Certainly the biggest hit with our customers has been Roscoe, as he is affectionately called by his owner. This 1938 170V came to us after several years of body restoration. Unfortunately, he could neither start nor stop. Once we had the brakes back in order, we coaxed his engine back to life. We then restored the complete electrical system, down to the "trafficators" (little arms that pop out and flash when turning). Major emphasis was spent making sure the "suicide" doors closed securely with that timeless Mercedes THUNK! In November 2005, for the first time in 45 years, Roscoe's owner Jack took him out on the road again. Jack had bought the Benz in 1952 from his Lieutenant in Germany for $250, and drove it there until coming back to West Virginia in 1956. (We understand transporting Roscoe across the Atlantic involved two cartons of cigarettes.) Jack drove the Mercedes daily until it was retired in 1960.Now Roscoe can once again put his top down, rumble seat up and take Jack out for a spin.
